GOD’S GREEN MARKET FUND

God's Green Market Fund supports wellness and health related programs that support and educate children and families in the communities we support.

For the summer of 2021, we have connected the Port Chester Youth Bureau and the Port Chester Middle School Giving Garden. The Youth Bureau is sponsoring the pay of an intern who will take care of the garden!

In 2019 - this Fund was able to support a Summer Intern from the Port Chester Middle School at the Giving Garden who was responsible for the day to day care of the Garden insuring abundant crops for distribution to the community.

PORT CHESTER MIDDLE SCHOOL 2019 GIVING GARDEN

In 2019 the Council of Community Services has joined forces with the Giving Garden – a Port Chester Middle School Science department initiative who for the past eleven years – has planted and cared for a garden of organically grown fruit, vegetables and herbs.

"The CCS is excited to partner with Open Door and the PC Middle School to make the Giving Garden's summer program successful. The Council fully supports endeavors that promote community wellness and family participation"… Blanca P. Lopez, President CCS

The Council’s God’s Green Market Fund is sponsored by an intern who was a critical resource in achieving the summers goal of providing 1000lbs of produce to many Port Chester families and individuals in need. At the end of July, the Garden had supplied 250 pounds of food to local families and food banks

Save the Bees - Clay Art Center and Port Chester Middle School Mosaic Bench

IMG_2025.jpg

This past winter Clay Art Center teaching artists worked with Port Chester Middle School 6th graders to create handmade ceramic tiles, while educating them on the importance of pollinators on our agricultural system, as well as the risks that bees are currently facing. The components of the mosaic showcase bee-friendly flowers such as Daisy, Poppy, Marigold, and Echinacea and highlight food sources that would be severely affected with the decline or loss of bees.

Allison Silverman, Home and Consumer Sciences Teacher, as well as the founder of the Giving Garden, worked closely with Clay Art Center staff and teachers to integrate the project into her overall curriculum. Students were engaged in both the art making process and the mission of bringing awareness to the plight of bees.

The Council of Community Services supports this initiative in partnership with Open Door.
