Port Chester Immigrant Defense (PCID) is a group of volunteers working to protect and support the immigrant community of Port Chester, New York; informing people of their rights, and helping people exercise and enjoy these rights. The group has worked tirelessly since helping the immigrant community of Port Chester through:

  • Accompanying immigrants to Immigration Court hearings, local and county

     courts, Homeland Security check-ins, police stations, and lawyers’ appointments;

  • Raising money for legal fees; Identifying responsible and qualified lawyers;

  • Organizing legal clinics to advise immigrants about possible pathways to legal status;

  • Raising money, donating goods, and identifying resources for basic human needs such as rent, personal items, and clothes;

  • Providing translation services for legal needs and community bulletins;

  • Helping families navigate local government and nonprofit services, medical appointments, and school meetings;

  • Helping families enroll children in school, Head Start, camp, and after school programs;

  • Collaborating with other nonprofits to establish children’s summer and after school academic enrichment programs;

  • Organizing rallies and vigils on behalf of both individuals and immigration issues;

  • Organizing educational workshops on rights, concerns, voter registration and election issues;

  • Advocating on behalf of local, county, and state laws to protect and expand the rights of immigrants;

  • Collaborating with other community groups having a similar mission;

  • Offering friendship and intangible support.

We believe that our community and our country are safer and more vibrant when people are free to live peacefully with their families and work to create a better life.
